PAMAS has highlighted the critical importance of proper sample preparation in particle counting, demonstrating
how incorrect handling can lead to misleading results.
In a recent laboratory trial using the PAMAS SBSS particle counter, two bottles of validated secondary
calibration suspension (MTD) were compared.
One bottle was measured without preparation, while the other underwent a rigorous preparation process including shaking, ultrasonic treatment, rolling, and degassing.
The results were clear:
- Without preparation, particle counts varied significantly depending on which part of the bottle was sampled, making any statement about the total volume unreliable.
- With proper preparation, particle counts remained consistent across all subsamples, accurately reflecting the composition of the entire bottle.
This experiment proves that sample preparation is essential for meaningful particle measurement. Settling, agglomeration, and uneven distribution of particles can distort results if not corrected beforehand. By ensuring proper preparation, laboratories and industries can achieve precise, reproducible data across all fluid sample applications.
